this morning

“this morning” is composed of the voices of reporters, courtroom spectators and police present during the Soledad Brothers trial, 1971. the principle voice heard is that of KPFA reporter Karen Lee Wald as she recounts the police beating of courtroom spectators. artist renderings of these events were done by Walt Stewart, whose work was exhibited at the Bernice Layne Brown Gallery at UC Berkeley. drawing on conventions/traditions of poetry, storytelling, cut ups, musique concrete, phase music, and plunderphonics, “this morning” prompts listeners to revisit and evaluate anew our nation’s long ongoing and still unresolved relations of race and violence.
